Network timing, synchronisation and industrial GNSS solutions
Founded by Prof. Charles Curry in 1986, Chronos provides network timing, synchronisation and GNSS solutions to clients worldwide.
Synchronisation in communication networks is vital to ensure that the multiple, critical services using the networks are reliable and consistent. Applications that utilise location and timing services enabled by GPS/GNSS signals are increasingly part of every-day life.
Chronos delivers the solutions, the components, the knowledge and the service assurance tools to enable users to adopt, adapt and trust time, timing and location technology wherever it is required, anywhere in the world.
ISO 9001 approved, Chronos specialises in the supply and integration of timing and GPS solutions and supply a wide range of global organisations in the telecoms, utilities, enterprise, financial, defence, security and geolocation markets. Synchronisation network infrastructure deployments have been supplied to over 80 wireline and wireless telecom operators in more than 50 countries around the globe. All installations are supported throughout their operational lifetime with a 24x7 next day swap repair service.
Chronos supplies infrastructure equipment manufactured by the global leader in telecom timing, Symmetricom, Inc of San Jose. Chronos also manufactures the SyncWatch family of versatile telecom network synchronisation test equipment bringing Service Assurance and Quality of Service solutions to a wide range of organisations either direct or through our global distributor Exfo, Inc based in Canada.
A portfolio of consultancy and testing services is delivered by Chronos experts who deal with the very latest technological advances in telecom timing including SyncE and IEEE 1588 (PTP). The Chronos Synchronisation MasterClass has educated over a 1000 engineers with a two day knowledge based training course for anyone working on today’s telecom network infrastructure.
Chronos is a world leader in GPS interference, detection and mitigation (IDM) technology and conceived the internationally recognised SENTINELresearch project. SENTINEL is investigating the detection, quantification and location of jamming and interference to GPS/GNSS signals at point of use by deploying IDM probes in the vicinity of critical infrastructure. This core IDM technology was conceived within the GAARDIAN research project to develop IDM probes and perform data analysis of GNSS signals. The probes also quantify the quality of the UK eLoran signal from Anthorn as a complementary PNT signal to GPS.
Chronos specialises in equipment for industrial Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) solutions and partners with innovators and leaders such as PPM, Septentrio, LabSat, Cast, GPS Networking, GPS Source, San Jose Navigation, Antcom and UrsaNav. These solutions offer a full range of GPS/Galileo/GNSS and eLoran products, components and services via the GPS-World.biz website. Chronos has developed a range of bespoke GPS timing productsfor time and frequency synchronisation in power and communication systems using TCXO, OCXO, Rb and CSAC technology industrialising the latest A-GPS, high sensitivity software radio GPS solutions originally developed for the mobile phone market.
Chronos is a member of the ITU Standards Committee (ITU-T SG15/Q13), which sets the rulebook for timing in telecom networks and Prof. Curry is the founder of the International Telecom Sync Forum(ITSF) which is the largest annual conference focusing on time and timing technology in telecom networks.
