Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, UK – 11 February 2011 – Chronos Technology, the UK's leader in time and timing for fixed and mobile telecoms, is to play a key part in the newly formed IEEE 1588 Conformity Alliance Programme (ICAP) which was established to work towards the conformance to IEEE 1588 Standards for timing and synchronisation.

Chris Farrow, Technical Manager with Chronos, has joined the Committee of Experts and will be part of the global team.  The initial scope of the Committee is the review and approval of the Certification Test Suite for telecom, followed by the certification programme launch in early 2011.

ICAP’s Committee of Experts comprise of many notable leaders in the timing and network synchronisation field from Alcatel-Lucent; Anue Systems; Brilliant Telecom; Broadcom; BT; Calnex Solutions; China Mobile; Cisco; Comcast; Ericsson; France Telecom;  LSI;  MEF; Nokia Siemens Networks; Oscilloquartz; RAD Data Communications; Semtech; Symmetricom; Zarlink.  

About Chris Farrow, BSc (Hons), AMInstP, MIET

Chris is responsible for all technical services including Synchronisation MasterClass Training, Sync Audit and network planning consultancy, customer demonstrations and SyncWatch product development.  Chris participates in the ITU Study Group 15 Question 13 (Synchronisation) and regularly presents synchronisation papers at international conferences such as WSTS and ITSF. 

Chris joined Chronos from Marconi’s UK Technical Assistance Centre in Liverpool in January 2006. During his time at Marconi, Chris gained 17 years’ experience working in all aspects of telecommunications and was responsible for the field trial, rollout and support of enhanced synchronisation products and services within Marconi’s "System X" Switching and SDH/DWDM products.

Chris holds an Honours degree in Physics & Electronics from UMIST – University of Manchester, Institute of Science & Technology.  He is also a member of the IET.

About IEEE 1588 Conformity Alliance

IEEE 1588 Conformity Alliance was established to advocate the Precision Timing Protocol and to focus on certifying implementations to assure conformance to IEEE 1588™ "Standard for a Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol for Networked Measurement and Control Systems."

Founding Board Members of the IEEE 1588 Conformity Alliance include Alcatel-Lucent, Anue Systems, Brilliant Telecommunications, Calnex Solutions, Huawei Technologies, Iometrix, and Symmetricom. Additional Founding Members include Accedian Networks, Chronos Technology, and Ericsson. The group is currently developing a test program that will serve as the foundation of its conformance and certification activities.
