Chronos announces availability of Symmetricom's X72 Precision Rubidium Oscillator

Driving High Stability

Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, 1 March 2005 - Chronos Technology, a single source supplier of turnkey synchronisation systems and access solutions for the global telecommunications industry, today announced the availability of Symmetricom's innovative rubidium atomic oscillator, the X72, through its Components Division.

The X72, which reflects significant advances in physics miniaturisation and integration, is ultra-compact, has low power consumption and its wide range temperature operation make rubidium performance accessible to almost any synchronisation application from mobile and fixed line telecom networks to handheld test and measurement devices.

Symmetricom's innovative physics package integrated with the inherently stable characteristics of rubidium atom oscillation enable the extremely compact X72 to maintain excellent frequency control over a wide temperature range. This means that applications such as field portable test equipment can now benefit from the size and performance benefits.

A complete range of output frequencies and characteristics are available to meet the needs of any network environment. X72 can be disciplined to a precision 1 pulse per second (PPS) reference input such as GPS and it can operate by itself as a precision stand-alone reference. X72's output also includes 1 PPS.

Breaking the barriers that previously limited the use of rubidium atomic stability, the X72 with its superior performance, reduced size and dramatically reduced cost makes rubidium's well known stability and precision available to almost any application at quartz prices. The X72 is now a cost-effective viable alternative to quartz and in many applications, including mobile base stations, it will allow the removal of the dependency on an external reference to correct the quartz aging process.
