Chronos creates a GPS Interference Reporting Facility
Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, UK – 30 November 2006 Chronos Technology the specialist supplier of components for RF equipment designers and GPS components and accessories for the communications industry has created a free to use GPS interference logging portal at www.gps-world.biz.
The purpose of this page is to enable a better understanding of what is often a temporary phenomenon. While the GPS interference facility exists on the US Coast Guard website, there is a perception because this is not based in the UK that information relating to GPS outages may not be acted upon or passed back to Ofcom for investigation.
Chronos is offering GPS users the opportunity to record details about local outages and these can be forwarded to the relevant organisations with originator’s details or with privacy as preferred.
The increased use of GPS and eventually Galileo in the future to provide time and timing for wireless telecom applications such as WiMax, WCDMA, GSM etc will mean that localised interference in fixed network deployment of GPS will become more of an issue. The Chronos GPS reporting page will act as a free logging facility for general use by users of GNSS services who are experiencing problems.
Chronos is also involved with the ongoing discussion with Ofcom regarding GPS re-radiators and the information page is posted at: http://www.gps-world.biz/products/gps-rerad.htm indicating the latest position regarding the legality of boosting and re-radiating the GPS signal into an enclosed environment such as a test or training lab or a garage/hangar facility.
