Chronos announces the launch of TimeMAX
Synchronisation Sub-System for WiMAX Cellular Base Stations and Broadcast Equipment

Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, UK, 1 June 2007 - Chronos Technology, the UK based specialist supplier of synchronisation equipment and solutions to the wireline and wireless telecom operators market, announces the introduction of TimeMAX to the UK and Scandinavian markets from its US based partner Symmetricom, Inc.  A series of cost-effective synchronisation sub-systems designed to be integrated into existing communications and transmission equipment, TimeMAX is a flexible GPS disciplined time and frequency platform optimised for WiMAX and other applications that require precise frequency or time.

A portfolio of sub-system products has been developed by Symmetricom in response to demand from their network service provider customers as they develop a wide range of new IP (Internet Protocol) applications such as voice, real time video and gaming which are sensitive to excessive timing variations and network latency.  These applications and the deployment of new technologies such as WiMAX base stations, DVB transmission equipment and new UMTS base stations with IP-based backhaul, are driving the need for end-to-end network synchronisation, pushing precise timing and frequency needs beyond base stations and central offices into areas throughout the network.

Mobile WiMAX (802.16e) requires both frequency and time synchronisation. Precise relative time synchronisation in any Time Division Duplex (TDD) transmission system improves the efficiency of bandwidth utilisation.  GPS is therefore the recommended timing source for synchronisation for WiMAX base stations. TimeMAX is designed to meet these tough synchronisation requirements with its compact size, simple interface, and optimized reliability.

TimeMAX is presented as an OEM module that can be cost effectively designed into a radio base integrated station or other application platforms.

Application areas include: WiMAX Mobile Base Station Timing, Broadcast (DVB, DVB-H, DAB and DTV), Satellite Communications Equipment and Cellular Base Station (CDMA, TDMA, UMTS and LTE).

• Availability in three different grades with various phase noise specifications
• OCXO options for different holdover requirements
