International Telecom Sync Forum (ITSF)
The ITSF was conceived in 2000 by Charles Curry bringing together a group of industry experts to emulate (from a European perspective) the US Workshop on Synchronisation in Telecommunications Systems (WSTS) held annually in Boulder, Colorado. The ITSF exists to create an annual three day papers driven telecom industry forum and workshop (event), focusing on developments, techniques, issues, problems and solutions relating to time, timing or synchronisation (sync) applicable to the Telecoms industry. Charles is Chairman of the Steering Group.
The 6th International Telecom Sync Forum is taking place in Munich, Germany from 4th-6th November 2008.
Workshop on Synchronisation in Telecommunication Systems
The Worlds of Telecom and Datacom are merging. As the telecom/datacom core shifts from synchronous to asynchronous, new methods of providing sync for applications have been developed into standards. This Workshop, now in its 18th year, is the unique industry-neutral forum in North America for staying current with this revolution. WSTS and its sister conference ITSF in Europe represent a global alliance of pre-eminent experts in synchronisation for telecom and related applications. Many of these experts act as steering group members for both conferences, as well as sit on various standards bodies including ITU, ATIS, IEEE and IETF. Charles Curry is a member of the Steering Group.
The 2008 conference was held in Broomfield, Colarado, USA, from 13-15th May 2008. View details here»
WSTS 2009 will be held in March - exact date and venue TBA
Knowledge Transfer Network – Location & Timing
KTNs have been set up by government (Dept for Innovation University & Skills – DIUS)) to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and experience between users, industry and the science base. They bring together diverse organisations and provide activities and initiatives that promote the exchange of knowledge and the stimulation of innovation in these communities.
The Location and Timing KTN is a managed network of more than 450 organisations (800 members) which research, develop, operate and apply location and timing technologies. It was established by the DIUS Technology Strategy Board in recognition of location and timing's strategic importance to the UK economy. The L & T KTN team, of which Charles Curry is a member of the Steering Committee, works with industry and researchers to exploit knowledge and connect companies to emerging technologies and the best international research and practice. The L & T KTN is a forum for its members and an authoritative voice advising government about the impact of location and timing technologies.
If anyone would like more information or understand how they could influence the direction of the KTN, please contact us.
International Telecommunication Union
ITU is the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technologies. As the global focal point for governments and the private sector, ITU's role in helping the world communicate spans 3 core sectors: radiocommunication, standardization and development. ITU also organizes TELECOM events and was the lead organizing agency of the World Summit on the Information Society.
ITU is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and its membership includes191 Member States and more than 700 Sector Members and Associates. Chronos is an associate member of ITU-T Study Group 15, Question 13 - Optical and other transport network infrastructures. Study Group 15 is the home of standards for DSL. It also works on optical access and backbone technologies.
If you would like to know more about how ITU sets the Standards for Telecom Network synchronisation, please contact us.
The next meeting of Study Group 15, Question 13 takes place in Rome week commencing 22 September 2008.
The IET
The Institution of Engineering and Technology is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community. The IET has more than 150,000 members in 127 countries and offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. The IET provides a global knowledge network to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote the positive role of science, engineering and technology in the world. Charles Curry is a Fellow of the IET and a member of the Steering Group for Communications and Professional Network.
