What is SyncWatch?

SyncWatch is a round-the-clock network synchronisation quality monitoring system using remote "probes" to compare two E1/2.048 MHz signals or one E1/2.048 MHz signal against a GPS reference. SyncWatch probes can be deployed independently of other synchronisation systems and telecommunications infrastructure equipment and the resulting data accessed via the internet from a secure server using your Web browser.

How does SyncWatch work?

You will deploy probes at sites where you wish to continuously monitor the quality of the synchronisation in the network. Sometimes this may be to defend or police service level agreements, sometimes to continuously monitor quality of service at the network edge and save valuable human resource for more urgent tasks.

Deployment of the probes has been designed to be "plug & play". A communication path is established to a SyncWatch server using a local DCN connection, or in-built GSM or PSTN modem. On power-up the probe calls the server to establish its personality. The server receives heartbeats and exception reports from all deployed probes. The information is processed and relevant personnel are alerted to any problems as they arise. Engineers or management, whether in the field or back at base can receive alerts by SMS and/or email and can then access the appropriate synchronisation quality information via a Web browser to begin appropriate fault investigations.

The probe works by monitoring the phase and MTIE data on a continuous basis which can then be requested in half hour or 24 hour windows, whilst transients which are outside user settable limits are captured and communicated to the server in the form of an exception report. Hence traditional difficulty in capturing elusive phase transients is a now a thing of the past. As soon as the exception is logged an SMS is sent and engineers can be on the case.

Security is assured as the probe can only call the server. Server space can be rented from Chronos or clients can deploy their own servers for field access via VPN.

Deploying SyncWatch enables you to monitor the quality of sync anywhere in your network from anywhere in the world 24 hours a day.
